About This Project
Since 2018, Metro Blooms and Metro Blooms Design+Build have collaborated with the Riverside Plaza community off of Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis to redesign their outdoor spaces for greater environmental resilience and better quality of outdoor living.
Working with the Riverside Plaza Tenant Association and owner Sherman Associates, we engaged with residents at community meetings, workshops, social events and community-planting events to design and install stormwater features including two large rain gardens. The rain garden park featured here was design by Metro Blooms Design+Build, constructed by Blue Thumb partner JL Theis, and planted with residents in 2023. New benches, lights, and trees were also added.
The rain gardens at Riverside Plaza filter more than half a million gallons of storm water annually, protecting the nearby Mississippi River. This project transforms an underutilized open area into a beautiful natural space for residents to have access to nature in the heart of the city!
