About This Project

Metro Blooms Design+Build supported businesses along Central and Lowry Avenues in Minneapolis to install stormwater management and green infrastructure as part of a broader corridor revitalization effort. With funding and technical support from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization and the City of Minneapolis, our team worked with businesses including Recovery Bike Shop, Fair State Brewing, Water Bar, TE Studio, Phygen, and Islamic Cultural Community Center (ICCC) to retrofit highly constrained commercial sites with innovative green solutions. These included rain gardens, native plantings, and a green roof at Recovery Bike Shop to capture and filter runoff in a tight footprint.

Together, these projects manage almost all of the annual rainfall on each site—preventing polluted runoff from entering storm sewers and the Mississippi River—while adding green space, public signage, and visible improvements along a heavily urbanized corridor. The work has not only improved stormwater outcomes but also supported neighborhood livability and redevelopment in an area historically impacted by disinvestment.
