About This Project
Located between the sidewalk and street, this boulevard “bioswale” is excavated and lowered below the grade of the curb to collect stormwater runoff. Tho achieve the client’s vision for a modern, clean look, we created a matrix design that staggers a primary plant (in this case fox sedge and prairie dropseed) throughout the planting, with flowering plants added in a scattered pattern. The selected plants, including aromatic aster, butterfly milkweed, penstemon and pale purple coneflower, bloom at different times, creating continuous visual interest across the growing season. Scroll down to see more photos of the planting after the initial install and after one year of growth!
